What is an adblue emulator ?
An adblue emulator is an electronic device designed to communicate with a vehicle's SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system and engine ECU. Its purpose is to simulate the operation of certain emissions related components within the adblue system.
Euro 5 and Euro 6 trucks rely heavily on SCR technology to reduce NOx emissions. These systems involve multiple electronic components including NOx sensors, adblue pumps, dosing injectors, SCR ECUs, temperature sensors, and complex CAN communication networks. As vehicles age, faults within these systems become increasingly common and may eventually lead to warning lights, engine derate, or limp mode. An adblue emulator is designed to help deal with many common SCR related problems by maintaining stable communication with the vehicle ECU.
Modern emulator systems are available for a wide range of trucks, agricultural machinery, construction equipment and industrial vehicles
Depending on the vehicle application, emulator may be available in both wired and plug & play versions.
At adblueemulator.com we focus heavily on professionally developed emulator systems using stable software communication, automotive grade electronics, and proper testing to ensure long term reliability.
How does adblue emulator work ?
An adblue emulator works by communicating electronically with the vehicle's SCR system and engine ECU. Its purpose is to simulate the correct operation of certain emissions related components within the adblue system. With adblue emulator fitted, your SCR system will be disconnected and adblue emulator will instead be sending signals to the ECU imitating correct signals as if the system was working as it should. In short, adblue emulator tricks the vehicle's ECU into thinking that SCR system and all of it's components are working as should when in fact the whole system is disconnected and no adblue is being used.
The vehicle ECU continuously monitors all of these systems while the truck is operating. If the ECU detects incorrect readings, poor SCR efficiency, communication faults, or dosing problems, the truck may trigger warning lights, engine derate, or eventually enter limp mode.
An adblue emulator is designed to simulate stable SCR system operation and maintain correct ECU communication depending on the vehicle application and emulator type. Professionally developed emulators use advanced communication protocols to interact correctly with modern vehicle electronics, particularly on sensitive Euro 6 platforms.
This is why emulator quality is extremely important.
Depending on the vehicle make and model, adblue emulators may be available in plug and play or wired versions.
What are the benefits of an adblue emulator ?
SCR systems can become one of the biggest sources of downtime and expensive repairs on Euro 5 and Euro 6 trucks. As vehicles age, problems involving NOx sensors, adblue pumps, dosing injectors, SCR ECUs, wiring, and communication systems become increasingly common.
An adblue emulator is designed to help reduce many of the operational problems and cost caused by repeated SCR related faults.
One of the biggest benefits for many operators is improved vehicle reliability. Modern emissions systems are extremely sensitive, and even relatively small faults may eventually trigger warning lights, engine derate, or limp mode. For long distance transport operators, avoiding unexpected breakdowns and reduced engine power can be extremely important.
Another major advantage is reduced downtime. For many fleet operators and owner drivers, the operational disruption caused by repeated emissions faults becomes more expensive than the repair itself.
Adblue emulators will also help reduce ongoing SCR related repair costs. Euro 6 systems rely on multiple expensive electronic components which may fail over time, especially on high mileage vehicles operating under demanding conditions.
Another important benefit is peace of mind during long distance operation. Many drivers prefer knowing they are less likely to experience sudden emissions related derate situations far from home or during critical deliveries.
For agricultural, construction, mining, and industrial machinery applications, reliability can be even more important because equipment often operates in remote areas where breakdowns create major operational disruption.
What Are the Disadvantages of an adblue Emulator?
The main disadvantage of an adblue emulator is that its use on public roads is not legal in the UK and EU countries. Regulations vary between countries, so operators should always check local laws before installation.
Another important consideration is product quality. Poor quality emulator systems may cause communication issues, warning lights, or unreliable operation, especially on modern Euro 6 vehicles.
It is also important to understand that an adblue emulator is designed specifically for SCR related systems and will not repair unrelated engine, gearbox, fuel system, or mechanical faults.
Choosing a high quality, vehicle specific emulator from an experienced manufacturer is essential for reliable operation.
Are adblue emulators legal ?
The legality of adblue emulators depends on the country, vehicle type, and intended use.
In the UK and EU countries, it is illegal to use adblue emulators on vehicles operated on public roads. However, regulations are different for off road, agricultural, construction, mining, industrial, and export applications.
We always recommend checking your local laws and regulations before purchasing or installing an adblue emulator.
If you are unsure whether an emulator is suitable for your application, please contact our team and we will be happy to advise.
What are the legal uses of the adblue emulator ?
The legal use of an adblue emulator depends on local laws and regulations.
In many countries, adblue emulators may be used for off road applications such as agricultural machinery, construction equipment, mining vehicles, industrial machinery, and certain export vehicles where permitted by local legislation.
Many export markets in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and South America either have different emissions requirements or do not require Euro 5 and Euro 6 emissions compliance, making adblue emulator use permissible in those regions where local regulations allow.
In the UK and most EU countries, adblue emulators must not be used on vehicles operated on public roads.
If you are unsure whether an emulator is suitable for your intended application or export market, please contact our team and we will be happy to advise.
Are adblue emulators safe ?
Yes, a professionally developed adblue emulator is safe when correctly matched to the vehicle and installed properly.

Reliability largely depends on the quality of the electronics, software, and installation. Poor quality adblue emulators may cause communication issues and unreliable operation, especially on Euro 6 vehicles.
What does an adblue emulator actually do ?
An adblue emulator is designed to communicate with the vehicle's SCR system and ECU, simulating the operation of certain emissions related components. In short, it will disconnect the adblue system completely whilst communicating with the ECU, tricking it into thinking adblue system is operating as it should even though it has been disconnected and no adblue liquid is being used.
It's purpose is to help prevent SCR related faults from causing warning lights, engine derate, or limp mode conditions. Depending on the vehicle and system, an emulator may help deal with problems involving NOx sensors, adblue dosing systems, SCR communication faults, and other emissions related components.
The exact functionality varies depending on the vehicle make, model, engine, and emulator type, which is why choosing the correct solution for your application is important.
What are the main problems with adblue emulators ?
The most common problems are usually caused by low quality adblue emulators rather than the concept of the emulator itself.
Cheap products may use unstable software, low quality electronics, or incorrect vehicle programming, which can lead to communication faults, warning lights, or even bigger problems.
Another common issue is purchasing an emulator that is not compatible with the specific vehicle or ECU version.
Choosing a professionally developed, vehicle specific emulator from a reputable manufacturer is the best way to ensure reliable operation and long term performance.
How difficult is it to install adblue emulator ?

What is an SCR system in trucks ?
SCR stands for Selective Catalytic Reduction. It is an emissions control system used on modern diesel trucks to reduce harmful NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions.
The SCR system works by injecting adblue fluid into the exhaust system, where it reacts with the exhaust gases inside the SCR catalyst. This process converts harmful NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.
A typical SCR system includes components such as the adblue tank, pump, dosing injector, NOx sensors, SCR catalyst, and electronic control units (ECUs).
While SCR systems help modern trucks meet emissions regulations, they can also become a source of expensive faults and downtime as vehicles age.
What is a DPF system in trucks ?
DPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter. It is an emissions control system designed to capture and remove soot particles from a diesel engine's exhaust gases before they are released into the atmosphere.
As the truck operates, soot gradually accumulates inside the DPF. To prevent blockage, the vehicle periodically performs a process called regeneration, where the soot is burned off at high temperatures.
Modern DPF systems are closely linked to the SCR and engine management systems. If the DPF becomes blocked or fails to regenerate correctly, it may trigger warning lights, reduced engine power, or limp mode.
DPF related faults are among the most common emissions system problems found on Euro 6 trucks.
What is EGR system in trucks ?
EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is an emissions control system used on modern diesel engines to reduce the formation of NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions during combustion.
The system works by redirecting a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine intake. This lowers combustion temperatures, helping to reduce NOx production inside the engine.
A typical EGR system includes an EGR valve, cooler, sensors, and electronic controls. Over time, carbon deposits can build up within the system, leading to reduced performance, warning lights, or engine faults.
The EGR system works alongside the SCR and DPF systems as part of the vehicle's overall emissions control strategy.
How does an SCR system work ?
The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system reduces harmful NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions produced by a diesel engine.
It works by injecting adblue fluid into the exhaust system through a dosing injector. When exposed to hot exhaust gases, the adblue creates a chemical reaction inside the SCR catalyst, converting harmful NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.
The entire process is controlled electronically using components such as NOx sensors, adblue pumps, dosing modules, temperature sensors, and ECUs.
Modern SCR systems are highly effective but can become complex and expensive to repair when faults develop.
How does a DPF system work ?
The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) system is designed to capture soot particles produced during diesel engine combustion and prevent them from being released into the atmosphere.
As the truck operates, soot collects inside the filter. When the soot level reaches a certain point, the vehicle automatically performs a process called regeneration, which raises the exhaust temperature and burns the soot into a small amount of ash.
The DPF system is monitored by sensors and the vehicle ECU to ensure it is working correctly. If regeneration does not occur properly, the filter can become blocked, leading to warning lights, reduced engine performance, or limp mode.
How does an EGR system work ?
The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system works by redirecting a small portion of exhaust gases back into the engine intake system.
This reduces combustion temperatures inside the engine, which helps lower the production of NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions during the combustion process.
The system is controlled by an EGR valve and monitored by the vehicle ECU. On many modern trucks, the exhaust gases are also cooled before being reintroduced into the engine.
Over time, carbon deposits can build up within the EGR system, which may lead to reduced performance, warning lights, or engine-related faults.
Do SCR, DPF and EGR systems work together ?
Yes. SCR, DPF, and EGR systems are all part of the vehicle's overall emissions control system and work together to reduce harmful exhaust emissions.
The EGR system reduces NOx emissions inside the engine during combustion, the DPF system captures soot particles from the exhaust gases, and the SCR system uses adblue to reduce remaining NOx emissions before they leave the exhaust.
Because these systems are closely connected and monitored by the vehicle ECU, a fault in one system can often affect the performance of the others and may lead to warning lights, engine derate, or limp mode.
Are there DPF emulators ?
Yes, DPF emulators are available for certain trucks, machinery, and industrial applications.
Like adblue emulators, DPF emulators are designed for specific vehicles and engine management systems, so they are not universal. Availability depends on the make, model, engine type, and ECU generation.
If you are looking for a DPF emulator for a particular vehicle or machine, please contact us with the details and our team will be happy to advise on the available options.
Are there EGR emulators ?
EGR emulator solutions do exist for certain vehicles and applications, although they are far less common than adblue and DPF emulators.
Unlike SCR systems, EGR systems are often more closely integrated with engine management, making emulator development more complex and vehicle specific.
At present, we do not offer EGR emulator products. If you are experiencing EGR related problems, we recommend contacting us with your vehicle details and fault information, as there may be alternative solutions available depending on the application.
Do adblue emulators simulate DPF as well ?
Not always. This depends on the vehicle and the specific emulator being used.
Some adblue emulators are designed only to simulate the SCR/adblue system, while others may also include DPF simulation functions. The exact functionality varies between manufacturers, vehicle models, ECU generations, and emissions systems.
If DPF simulation is important for your application, we recommend checking the product description carefully or contacting our team before ordering. We will be happy to advise on the capabilities of the emulator for your specific vehicle.
Do adblue emulators simulate EGR as well ?
Generally, no. Most adblue emulators are designed specifically to communicate with the SCR/adblue system and do not simulate the EGR system.
The EGR system performs a different function and is usually managed separately by the engine ECU. Because of this, EGR functionality is not typically included within standard adblue emulator systems.
If you are unsure what functions a particular emulator supports, please contact our team and we will be happy to advise on the capabilities of the product for your specific vehicle.
What is a DPF emulator ?
A DPF emulator is an electronic device designed to simulate the operation of a vehicle's DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) system.
The DPF system is responsible for capturing soot particles from the exhaust and performing periodic regeneration cycles. A DPF emulator communicates with the vehicle ECU to simulate normal DPF operation, depending on the vehicle and system configuration.
Like adblue emulators, DPF emulators are vehicle specific and are available for certain trucks, machinery, and industrial applications. Compatibility depends on the make, model, engine type, and ECU generation.
If you are looking for a DPF emulator, please contact us with your vehicle details and we will be happy to advise on the available options.
How does DPF emulator work ?
A DPF emulator works by communicating with the vehicle ECU and simulating the operation of the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) system.
Depending on the vehicle and emulator type, it can simulate information normally provided by the DPF system, helping the ECU recognise the system as operating correctly.
The exact functionality varies between vehicles, engine types, and ECU generations, which is why DPF emulators are always vehicle specific rather than universal.
Are adblue systems the same in all trucks ?
No, adblue systems vary significantly between truck manufacturers, models, engine types, and emissions standards.
While all SCR systems perform the same basic function of reducing NOx emissions using adblue fluid, the components, ECU software, sensors, communication protocols, and system layouts can differ considerably.
Even trucks from the same manufacturer may use different SCR systems depending on the production year or engine generation.
This is why good quality adblue emulators are vehicle specific and must be matched correctly to the truck they are intended for.
Do all trucks Worldwide have the same specifications ?
No, truck specifications can vary significantly between countries and regions.
Manufacturers often produce different versions of the same truck model to meet local emissions regulations, fuel quality standards, climate conditions, and market requirements. As a result, two trucks that appear identical may have different engines, ECUs, SCR systems, sensors, or software.
This is particularly common between European, North American, Australian, Asian, African, and Middle Eastern markets.
For this reason, it is important to provide the exact truck model, year, engine type, and country of operation when selecting an adblue emulator or other emissions-related solution.
What is an 8 in 1 adblue emulator ?
An 8-in-1 adblue emulator is a multi brand emulator that can be programmed to work with several different truck manufacturers and SCR systems.
These products are typically marketed as a universal solution for multiple truck brands. However, in our experience, most 8-in-1 emulators are low cost products manufactured in China and often lack the software quality, vehicle specific development, and long term reliability required for Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles.
Because modern trucks use very different SCR systems, ECU generations, and communication protocols, we generally do not recommend multi-brand 8-in-1 emulators. Vehicle specific emulators are usually far more reliable and provide better compatibility and long term performance.
At adblueemulator.com we specialise in high quality, vehicle specific solutions that are designed and tested for particular truck models rather than generic multi brand applications.
What is a 9 in 1 adblue emulator ?
A 9-in-1 adblue emulator is a multi brand emulator designed to support several different truck manufacturers and SCR systems within a single device.
These products are often marketed as a universal solution for workshops or operators working with multiple vehicle brands. However, because modern trucks use different ECUs, SCR systems, software versions, and communication protocols, a "one device fits all" approach is not always the best solution.
In our experience, most 9-in-1 emulators on the market are low cost Chinese products that prioritise broad compatibility over vehicle specific reliability. While they may work on some vehicles, they often cannot match the stability, software quality, and long term performance of a dedicated emulator designed specifically for a particular truck model.
For this reason, we generally do not recommend multi-brand 9-in-1 emulators. Vehicle specific solutions are usually more reliable and better suited to modern Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles.
At adblueemulator.com we focus on professionally developed, vehicle specific emulators designed to provide maximum compatibility and long term reliability.
Difference between universal and brand/model specific adblue emulators ?
Universal adblue emulators are designed to support multiple truck brands and models using a single device. They are often sold as 8-in-1, 9-in-1, or multi brand emulators.
Vehicle specific adblue emulators are designed and programmed for a particular truck make, model, engine, and SCR system.
In our experience, vehicle specific emulators generally offer a lot better compatibility, more stable ECU communication, and greater long term reliability. This is especially important on modern Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles where emissions systems are highly advanced and sensitive.
For this reason, we generally recommend vehicle specific solutions rather than universal multi brand emulators whenever possible. They may cost slightly more initially, but will provide a much more reliable long term solution.
Are Chinese adblue emulators any good ?
Some Chinese adblue emulators can work on certain vehicles, particularly older models. However, quality, software stability, and reliability vary enormously between manufacturers.
Most low cost Chinese emulators are designed as generic multi brand products and may not offer the same level of compatibility, testing, technical support, or long term reliability as professionally developed vehicle specific solutions.
Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles use highly advanced SCR systems and ECU communication protocols, making software quality extremely important.
For this reason, we generally recommend purchasing a proven, vehicle specific emulator from an experienced manufacturer rather than simply choosing the cheapest product available. In many cases, spending slightly more initially can save considerable time, money, and frustration later.
Are Polish adblue emulators any good ?
Like emulators from any country, the quality of Polish adblue emulators varies between manufacturers.
Some Polish companies have many years of experience developing truck electronics and offer reliable products. Others mostly resell generic products sourced from elsewhere.
Rather than focusing on where an emulator is made, we recommend looking at factors such as:
Product quality
Vehicle compatibility
Software stability
Technical support
Warranty
Industry experience
A well developed vehicle specific emulator from an experienced manufacturer will generally provide better results than a generic low cost alternative, regardless of where it is produced.
Why Can Smart adblue emulators are better than others ?
Can Smart adblue emulators are developed specifically for heavy commercial vehicles and machinery using vehicle specific software rather than generic multi brand programming.
Our products are designed using automotive grade electronics, stable communication protocols, and are extensively tested in real conditions. We also provide installation instructions, technical support, regular product updates, and a 2 year warranty.
Unlike many low cost generic emulators, Can Smart solutions focus on reliability, compatibility, and long term performance, helping operators reduce downtime and avoid unnecessary SCR related problems.
Why does adblue emulator quality matters ?
Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles use highly advanced SCR systems and ECU communication networks. A poor-quality emulator may cause warning lights, communication faults, unreliable operation, or compatibility issues.
A high quality emulator is designed with stable software, automotive grade electronics, and vehicle specific programming to ensure reliable long term performance.
Choosing a professionally developed emulator can help avoid unnecessary downtime, installation problems, and costly troubleshooting later.
How to spot adblue emulators you should not be buying ?
Be cautious of emulators that are advertised as "universal", "works on all trucks", or sold at unrealistically low prices. Modern SCR systems vary significantly between manufacturers, making true universal compatibility unlikely.
Other warning signs include a lack of technical support, no installation instructions, no warranty, no company information, and no clear vehicle compatibility list.
When choosing an adblue emulator, look for vehicle-specific solutions from experienced manufacturers that provide proper support, warranty, and proven product reliability. In many cases, buying a cheap emulator can become much more expensive in the long run.
Are Turkish emulators any good ?
The quality of Turkish adblue emulators varies between manufacturers.
In our experience, many Turkish products are generally better than low cost generic Chinese emulators, but they are often designed with a strong focus on competitive pricing and high volume production. This can result in compromises in areas such as component quality, software development, waterproofing, testing, and long-term reliability.
As with any emulator, the most important factors are product quality, vehicle compatibility, software stability, technical support, and manufacturer experience.
We recommend choosing a proven vehicle specific solution from an experienced manufacturer rather than focusing solely on price. In the long run, reliability and support are often far more important than the initial purchase cost.
What to pay attention to when choosing an adblue emulator ?
When choosing an adblue emulator, the most important factors are compatibility, quality, reliability, and technical support.
Make sure the emulator is designed specifically for your vehicle's make, model, engine, and SCR system. You should also look for a product that offers stable software, automotive-grade electronics, installation instructions, technical support, and a warranty.
Be cautious of very cheap "universal" emulators, as modern Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles often require vehicle specific solutions for reliable operation.
A quality emulator may cost more initially, but it can save significant time, money, and frustration in the long run.

How much money can an adblue emulator save me ?
The amount saved depends on the vehicle, annual mileage, and operating conditions, but for many operators the savings can be significant.
Potential savings include:
No adblue consumption
Avoided SCR related repairs
Avoided NOx sensor replacements
Reduced downtime
No mechanic call outs
Avoided recovery costs
Reduced risk of costly limp mode incidents
For a busy HGV, annual savings can often amount to thousands of pounds. For agricultural, construction, and mining machinery operating in demanding environments, the savings can be even greater due to reduced downtime and maintenance costs.
Many customers find that the emulator pays for itself after avoiding just one SCR related repair or breakdown.
Can I drive my truck without adblue ?
Modern trucks equipped with SCR systems are generally designed to require adblue in order to operate normally. You should not drive with empty adblue tank. Without adblue, most vehicles will eventually display warning messages and will enter engine derate or limp mode.
However, when a compatible adblue emulator is correctly installed, the vehicle can operate without adblue fluid.
What is limp mode ?
Limp mode is a protective operating mode used by modern vehicles when the ECU detects a serious fault.
When limp mode is activated, the vehicle reduces engine power and may limit speed in order to protect the engine, emissions systems, or other critical components. In many trucks, this can result in severe performance restrictions, making it difficult to continue the journey normally.
Common causes of limp mode include SCR, adblue, DPF, EGR, NOx sensor, engine, and electrical system faults.
Limp mode is one of the most common consequences of unresolved emissions related problems on Euro 5 and Euro 6 trucks.
Can an adblue emulator be removed ?
Yes, adblue emulators can be removed if required.
Plug & play emulators are particularly easy to remove, as they connect using factory style connectors and do not require permanent modifications to the vehicle wiring.
Wired emulators can also be removed, although the process may take longer depending on the installation method.
If you require assistance with emulator removal, our technical support team will be happy to help.
Will adblue emulator reset limp mode ?
In most cases, yes. If the limp mode has been caused by an SCR, adblue, or related emissions system fault, installing a compatible adblue emulator is often enough to restore full engine power.
However, some vehicles store specific fault codes that must be cleared using a diagnostic scanner before the limp mode restriction can be fully removed. In these cases, simply installing the emulator will not be sufficient on its own.
If you are unsure whether your vehicle will require fault code clearing after installation, please contact our team with the make, model, year, and fault information, and we will be happy to advise.
Will I get warning messages on the dashboard after installing an emulator ?
No. A properly developed and correctly installed vehicle specific adblue emulator is designed to prevent SCR related warning messages from appearing on the dashboard.
However, if the vehicle has existing fault codes stored in the ECU, these may need to be cleared using a diagnostic scanner after installation.
It is also worth noting that dashboard warnings are much more common with cheap generic emulators, particularly low cost multi brand products. These devices often use outdated software and simplified communication protocols, which can result in warning lights, fault codes, communication errors, and unreliable operation.
For the best results, we recommend using a high quality, vehicle specific emulator that has been properly developed and tested for your particular truck or machine.
Do I need a diagnostic device to install adblue emulator ?
Many adblue emulators can be installed without the need for any diagnostic equipment, but it would help. Diagnostic scanner can clear faults and also identify the issues that may arise due to incorrect installation. Some vehicles may have fault codes stored in the ECU that need to be cleared after installation. In these situations, a diagnostic scanner may be required to remove the fault codes and restore normal vehicle operation.
If you do not have access to diagnostics equipment, our team can advise whether it is likely to be needed for your specific vehicle and application.
How much do adblue emulators cost ?
The cost of an adblue emulator depends on the vehicle make, model, SCR system, and emulator type. Our prices currently range from £99 to £650, depending on the application and level of complexity involved.
While cheaper products are available on the market, we generally recommend investing in a high quality, vehicle specific solution. Reliable software, quality components, technical support, and long-term performance are often worth far more than the initial price difference.
If you would like a quote for your vehicle, please contact us with the make, model, year, and engine details, and we will be happy to recommend the correct product.
Are adblue emulators a viable solution to SCR problems ?
Yes, for many operators adblue emulators provide an effective solution to recurring SCR related faults and downtime. Modern SCR systems can be complex, expensive to repair, and prone to problems involving NOx sensors, adblue pumps, dosing injectors, wiring, and ECU communication. As vehicles age, these issues often become more frequent.
A high quality adblue emulator can help eliminate many of these recurring SCR related problems, reducing downtime, repair costs, and the risk of limp mode.
The suitability of an emulator depends on the vehicle so we always recommend discussing your requirements with our team before purchasing.
Is Manufacturing, Selling, or Buying an adblue Emulator Illegal?
No. In itself, the manufacturing, sale, and purchase of adblue emulators is not illegal in many countries.
Adblue emulators are used in a variety of applications, including export markets, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, mining vehicles, industrial equipment, and other off road applications where local regulations may permit their use.
However, the legality of installing and using an adblue emulator depends on the country, vehicle type, and intended application. In the UK and most EU countries, using an adblue emulator on a vehicle operated on public roads is not permitted.
We always recommend checking local laws and regulations before purchasing or installing an emulator.
Can adblue emulator damage ECU ?
A properly designed and correctly installed adblue emulator should not damage the vehicle's ECU.
Good quality adblue emulators are specifically developed to communicate safely with the vehicle's electronic systems using the correct protocols and operating parameters.
However, poor quality, incorrectly programmed, or badly installed emulators may cause communication issues, fault codes, or unpredictable behaviour. This is one reason why choosing a proven, vehicle specific product from an experienced manufacturer is so important.
At adblueemulator.com our emulators are designed and tested to ensure safe and reliable operation with the supported vehicle systems.
Can an adblue emulator damage the engine ?
No. A properly designed and correctly installed adblue emulator does not interact with the engine's internal mechanical components and therefore should not cause engine damage.
An adblue emulator is designed to communicate with the vehicle's SCR system and ECU. It does not alter engine lubrication, cooling, fuel delivery, turbocharger operation, or other critical engine functions.
As with any electronic device, it is important to use a good quality and vehiclespecific emulator and follow the installation instructions correctly. Low quality products may cause communication issues, but they should not cause direct mechanical engine damage.
Does an adblue emulator increase diesel consumption ?
No, an adblue emulator does not increase diesel consumption.
In fact, some operators report a small improvement in fuel economy because the SCR system is no longer consuming adblue and the engine is not managing certain emissions related processes. However, any fuel consumption changes will vary depending on the vehicle, engine, operating conditions, and driving style.
The primary purpose of an adblue emulator is to address SCR related issues and reduce downtime, rather than to improve fuel economy.
Why does using good quality adblue matter ?
Using good quality adblue is important for the reliability and longevity of the SCR system.
Low quality, contaminated, or incorrectly stored adblue can lead to problems such as blocked dosing injectors, damaged pumps, crystallisation, sensor faults, and SCR efficiency errors. These issues can result in warning lights, expensive repairs, engine derate, or limp mode.
To help prevent unnecessary SCR problems, always use high quality adblue from a reputable supplier and store it according to the manufacturer's recommendations. This simple step can help reduce breakdowns and extend the life of expensive SCR components.
Why does storring adblue properly matter ?
Proper storage is essential to maintain the quality of adblue and protect the SCR system from unnecessary problems.
Adblue should be stored in a clean, sealed container away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, freezing temperatures, and contaminants such as dust, fuel, oil, or water. Poor storage conditions can reduce adblue quality and may lead to injector blockages, pump failures, sensor faults, and SCR system warnings. Using properly stored adblue helps ensure reliable SCR operation and can reduce the risk of costly emissions-related repairs.
Why do SCR systems in trucks malfunction so often ?
SCR systems are highly complex and rely on multiple components working together perfectly, including NOx sensors, adblue pumps, dosing injectors, ECUs, temperature sensors, pressure sensors, and CAN communication networks.
As trucks age, these components are exposed to vibration, heat, moisture, road salt, and heavy use, increasing the likelihood of faults developing.
Many SCR problems are not caused by a single failed component but by communication issues, electrical faults, sensor failures, poor quality adblue, or normal wear and tear. This complexity is one reason why SCR related faults are among the most common causes of warning lights, engine derate, and limp mode on Euro 5 and Euro 6 trucks.
What are the penalties of using adblue emulator on the public roads in the UK ?
Using an adblue emulator on a vehicle operated on public roads in the UK is not permitted, as it may result in the vehicle no longer complying with the emissions standards it was originally approved to meet.
Potential consequences may include:
Vehicle prohibition notices
Fines issued by enforcement authorities
Operator compliance issues
Potential impacts on operator licences for commercial fleets
The exact penalties can vary depending on the circumstances, vehicle type, and applicable regulations.
It is important to note that adblue emulators are also used in other applications, such as agricultural machinery, construction equipment, mining vehicles, industrial machinery, and export markets where different regulations may apply.
If you are unsure whether an adblue emulator is suitable for your intended application, we recommend checking your local regulations.
Will I pass MOT test with adblue emulator ?
We cannot guarantee that a vehicle fitted with an adblue emulator will pass an MOT test.
In the UK, vehicles are required to comply with the applicable MOT inspection requirements and emissions regulations. If emissions related modifications are detected, the vehicle may fail the inspection.
If your vehicle is used exclusively for off road, agricultural, construction, mining, industrial, or export applications, different requirements may apply.
Will diagnostic tool detect adblue emulator ?
In most cases, a diagnostic tool will not directly identify the presence of an adblue emulator.
A properly designed emulator communicates with the vehicle ECU and SCR system in a way that appears normal to the diagnostic system. As a result, standard diagnostic scans typically do not display a message stating that an emulator is installed.
However, diagnostic capabilities vary between vehicle manufacturers, ECU generations, software versions, and diagnostic equipment. No emulator manufacturer can guarantee how every diagnostic system will behave on every vehicle.
Using a good quality, vehicle specific emulator is important to ensure stable communication and minimise the risk of abnormal fault codes or diagnostic anomalies.
Do I need to clear error codes after installing adblue emulator ?
In some cases, no. Once the emulator is installed, the vehicle may automatically return to normal operation after a short period of driving or an ignition cycle.
However, some vehicles store active fault codes that must be cleared using a diagnostic scanner before warning lights, engine derate, or limp mode can be fully removed.
This depends on the vehicle manufacturer, ECU type, and the specific fault codes present. If you are unsure whether fault code clearing will be required, please contact our team with your vehicle details and we will be happy to advise.

Why DAF euro 6 truck require different adblue emulators depending on model and year of manufacture ?
DAF has used several different SCR systems, ECU generations, and emissions control configurations throughout the Euro 6 production period.
Although two DAF trucks may look almost identical externally, they can have different engine management software, EAS (Exhaust Aftertreatment System) modules, wiring configurations, communication protocols, and SCR components.
For example, certain DAF XF, CF, and LF models use different EAS systems depending on the year of manufacture, meaning an emulator designed for one vehicle may not work correctly on another.
This is why it is important to provide the exact model and year when ordering an adblue emulator. If you are unsure which emulator is suitable for your DAF truck, our team will be happy to help identify the correct solution.
A special attention should be paid to DAF XF and CF trucks manufactured in 2017. This was the year when DAF changed form EAS3 to EAS4 module. The easiest way to know the difference is by having a look at the heater control module within the dashboard. Older EAS3 trucks [2013-2017] will have analogue dials and the newer EAS4 trucks [2017-2021] will have a digital heater control unit. Please see photo below:

Why SCANIA trucks require different adblue emulators depending on the model and year of manufacture ?
Scania has used several different SCR systems and ECU generations over the years, which means the correct emulator depends on the truck model and year of manufacture.
A good example is the transition from the S8 SCR ECU to the S9 SCR ECU in 2017. Although the trucks may appear very similar, the SCR systems, software, and communication protocols are different, requiring different emulator solutions. The easiest way to know the difference is by having a look at the heater control module within the dashboard. Older Scania trucks [2013-2017] will have an analogue dials and the newer trucks [2017-2021] will have a digital heater control unit. Please see photo below:
Scania Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles also use various engine management systems and emissions configurations depending on the model, production year, and market.
For this reason, it is important to provide accurate vehicle details when ordering. If you are unsure which emulator is suitable for your Scania truck, our team will be happy to identify the correct solution.
Do adblue emulators really work ?
Yes, a properly developed and correctly installed adblue emulator can be a very effective solution for SCR related problems.
The key factor is product quality. A high quality, vehicle specific emulator is designed to communicate correctly with the vehicle's SCR system and ECU, providing reliable operation and helping to prevent SCR related warning lights, engine derate, and limp mode.
However, not all emulators are created equal. Cheap generic products often deliver inconsistent results, especially on Euro 6 vehicles.
At adblueemulator.com we have supplied thousands of emulator solutions worldwide, helping operators reduce downtime and avoid recurring SCR related issues on trucks, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, and industrial vehicles.
Will I have to remove the DPF after installing an adblue emulator ?
This depends on the type of adblue emulator and the vehicle you are installing it to.
SCR system and a DPF system are two separate systems. Some adblue emulators will only emulate adblue system, meaning DPF stays operational as it was. In such cases installing an adblue emulator will not require any modifications to the DPF and the vehicle can continue operating with the DPF in place.
Other adblue emulators will not only emulate SCR system, but also the DPF. This mean that your DPF system will also be disconnected and although good quality emulator will simulate regeneration processes, this will only be virtually and no physical regeneration will be taking place. As a result, the DPF filter will fill up with soot in time, therefore you will need to make modifications to DPF to avoid it. You have three options in this case:
a) Remove DPF
b) Drill through DPF
c) Leave it in and clean it periodically
If you are unsure about your vehicle's configuration, please contact our team with the vehicle details and we will be happy to advise.
Will my truck keep on using adblue after installing adblue emulator ?
No. Once a compatible adblue emulator has been correctly installed, the vehicle will no longer require adblue fluid for normal operation.
As a result, operators typically stop purchasing adblue and no longer need to refill the adblue tank, which can lead to significant savings over time.
The exact behaviour may vary depending on the vehicle make, model, SCR system, and emulator type. If you are unsure how a particular emulator works on your vehicle, please contact our team and we will be happy to advise.
